The sun begins to peek through grey days and months,
we finally feel it’s warmth on us once more.
Time to begin.
Boxes and bags are assembled and shaken out,
cupboards and drawers flung wide and assessed.
Winter shall be purged from sight, hearts and minds.
The useful gets packed away,
less carefully than needed, but the sun awaits.
The old, useless and items that bore us
get recycled, donated or binned.
Nothing is safe from spring cleaning.
There is the inevitable nostagia
when childhood boxes and past items are discovered,
examined, and returned to their hiding places.
Windows flung wide and polished,
spiders chased from garden sheds,
and the entire neighbourhood cuts the grass.
Spring has well and truly sprung.
Winter is swept clean outside, for now.
