New promises for a new day,
the sun has been shining for the hours I’ve spent
by the window holding my coffee mug.
I watch the neighbourhood,
kids skip or drag themselves to school,
suited men and women clutching laptop bags
and takeaway mugs,
yawn their way to their cars or buses.
As the morning stretches on, it quietens
and belongs to the older residents
and a few lazy cats.
The sunbeams move across the concrete
as the day ticks on,
and the streets are calm and peaceful.
I can feel summer in the air from my window
as I turn my face to the warmth from above,
